Why Did I Reinvent the Bra Clasp? The Century Old Problem We Couldn't Ignore.

Updated: May 3

You land on the Flashback site. You see a clasp. It looks elegant, modern. But the question hangs in the air: Why does this need to exist?

Fair question. The short answer? The bra clasp hasn't meaningfully changed in over 100 years. I decided that was long enough.

I'm Deb Choong, inventor of the Flashback bra clasp and here's my story.

The Hack That Didn't Exist

It started as a personal frustration. I wanted one bra that could work for any outfit—so I could switch between covered, backless, and sheer tops without a struggle. But every DIY bra hack solution I found was so complicated, it was a dead end.

So I looked elsewhere. The moment of clarity came from an unlikely place: a hand luggage fastener. It snapped smoothly, held securely, and released instantly. Why couldn't a bra clasp do the same? Something that embellishes the bra band yet makes the wearer feel more held and aligned in their outfit. An intentional addition meant to be seen, not precariously hidden with a complex hack.

That's when I realized: Innovation doesn't have to wait for big brands. Users—people like you and me—can drive it ourselves. This question—"why not?"—became the seed of everything that followed.

Side-by-side comparison of bra clasp designs. On the left, labeled "1900s," a traditional metal hook-and-eye clasp with multiple rows of fabric loops. On the right, labeled "2026," the Flashback bra clasp featuring a sleek, low-profile magnetic or flat-closure mechanism. Text overlay reads: "100+ years of the same clasp. Time for an upgrade."

A Local Idea with Global Relevance

The more I researched, the clearer it became. This wasn't just my problem. Active lifestyles, warming climates, and the rise of sheer, backless fashion mean more women are looking for versatile, stylish undergarment solutions.

We needed an upgrade. Not just functional, but beautiful. Not disposable, but a sustainable bra accessory designed to outlast all your bras.

The bra clasp is a small thing. But small things, when done right, can change how you feel all day.

The Mission

Flashback isn't just a clasp. It's a patented, user first innovation built on three principles: secure, beautiful, and easy to use.

I'm not a lingerie expert. I'm just someone who saw a gap, refused to accept the current offering, and spent years turning a personal frustration into a solution anyone can use.

This is where the story begins. Part 2 is where I show you how we finally cracked the design.
